Dictionary: Function
A function is a rule that connects each number x to exactly one number y.
f(x) = y
A function takes a number in (x) and gives exactly one number out (y). No x-value can give two different y-values.
Example: f(x) = 2x + 1 → f(3) = 7
Mathematics is the art of giving the same name to different things.
— Henri Poincaré (1854–1912)
